You can tell your Google Business Profile is suspended when it disappears from Google Search and Maps, you get a notice from Google, or your dashboard shows a "Suspended" status. If customers can no longer find you and you are not sure why, these are the signs to check first.
The Clearest Signs Your Profile Is Suspended
The fastest way to tell if your profile is suspended is to look for these signals, strongest first:
- A suspension notice from Google. You may get an email, or a banner inside your Business Profile dashboard, stating the profile was suspended and naming a broad policy. This is the clearest confirmation.
- Your listing vanished from Maps and Search. Search your exact business name and location. If the profile that used to show is gone, that points to a suspension or removal.
- You lost the ability to manage the listing. If you can no longer edit your info, or the management options changed, your access may have been restricted.
- A "Suspended" status in your dashboard. Inside Business Profile Manager, a profile flagged as suspended will often say so directly.
If you see the notice or the "Suspended" status, you have your answer. The trickier cases are when the listing is gone but Google has not clearly told you why.
Suspended, Unverified, or Disabled? How to Tell the Difference
Not every missing profile is suspended, and the difference changes what you do next. Three states get confused:
- Suspended. Your profile violated a policy and has been restricted or removed. The path back is a reinstatement appeal.
- Needs verification. Google wants you to confirm the business before it shows publicly. The path forward is completing verification, not an appeal.
- Disabled. The profile has been turned off, often for quality or guideline reasons, and may need an appeal as well.
These can look alike from the dashboard, and Google's own status labels sometimes add to the confusion. A profile that actually needs an appeal can display a "Verification required" message, which sends owners down the wrong path. When you are not sure which state you are in, Google's Business Profile status and verification tool can help you confirm before you waste effort on the wrong fix.
Hard Suspension vs Soft Suspension
Knowing whether yours is a hard or soft suspension tells you how much trouble you are in. A soft suspension usually keeps the listing visible in your dashboard and lets you still edit it, while a hard suspension removes the business from Maps and search entirely. The two call for different handling, and we break the distinction down in detail in our guide on hard vs soft suspensions.
What to Do Once You Confirm a Suspension
Once you confirm your profile is suspended, slow down before you act, because the first move is the one people most often get wrong. Do not click the reinstatement link and rush an appeal, and do not create a new listing to replace the missing one. Both can make recovery harder.
Instead:
- Confirm the state using the signs above.
- Figure out the likely cause by auditing your profile against Google's guidelines.
- Fix the root cause before you appeal.
- Gather documents that prove your business is real and operates where you say.
- File one clean appeal through Google's official appeals tool.
